little big for a hot dog but still works well! June 11, 2010 stayathomemami (Sunny Florida) A bit too much bread for me for a hot dog bun but it tastes good and does the trick! I may try making a hot dog sandwich (slicing several pieces of hot dog into the roll) to make it a bit more substantial and less bready. Another reviewer commented that these are great for hoagies and I totally agree! Looking forward to making some sandwiches too. I will continue to buy these for special occasions but they are a bit pricey. I will stick with their light tapioca bread (you can purchase here on amazon.com too) for every day use!
Great Bun... February 8, 2010 Erin Boaz (Fishers, IN) My son has several allergies and I am thrilled that he loves this bun with his hot dog. I can even bring this bun and a hot dog to his school once a month so he can go in the "hot lunch" line like everyone else. I personally haven't had it, but just the fact that he likes it lets me rate it a 5-star! BTW, I would warm it up a little before serving.
Pretty good for GF hotdog buns! October 5, 2009 H. Masbruch (Seattle, WA USA) GF hotdog buns are tough, but these are actually pretty good. Just got a pack today and made a turkey sandwich out of one. Microwave it for like 10 seconds before eating it, though. They work well although I do like the Ener G Seattle hot dog buns better.
Pretty good hot dog buns August 14, 2009 shoefreak (Indiana) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have not been able to find a bun that was edible until I tried these. They are much better after being warmed in a microwave for about 25 seconds. I like the fact they do not require refrigeration until after opening. I wrap unused buns individually in plastic wrap and place in zip lock bag and refrigerate or freeze.
Awesome, and do your homework. July 1, 2009 J. Kendall (Baton Rouge, Louisiana United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
These buns are spectacular, and I feel sorry for anyone who just rips the package open, slaps a hot dog in, and takes a bite. To be edible, they *must* be heated in the microwave until they're hot to the touch. Be careful not to burn yourself, but if you don't heat them enough, they're very dry and unsatisfying.
It can also help to get a tiny bit of moisture into the microwave with them. I usually heat mine on a plate I've splashed with a tiny bit of water. Or sometimes I'll try flicking just a bit of water onto the buns themselves before heating (you can easily overdo it).
Done properly, they're awfully close to the real thing. Which is an amazing treat if you can't have gluten.
