Product Description
Does it feel as if you re fighting your body to lose even one pound or just to maintain your current weight? Respected health and wellness expert and bestselling author Jillian Michaels has been there, too. So she consulted top experts in the field of metabolism and discovered that she d inadvertently been abusing her endocrine system for years. After fixing her own metabolism, she decided to share what she learned by devising this simple, 3-phase plan that engages all the weight-loss hormones (including the friendly HGH, testosterone, DHEA; and the not-so-friendly: insulin, cortisol, and excess estrogen).

In Master Your Metabolism, discover how to:
REMOVE anti-nutrients from your diet
RESTORE foods that speak directly to fat-burning genes
REBALANCE energy and your hormones for effortless weight loss

Michaels offers a wealth of information throughout, including: shopping lists and online shopping resources, hormone-trigger food charts, how to eat power nutrient foods on a budget, smart strategies for eating out, quick and easy recipes, as well as mini-programs for addressing PMS, andropause, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, and menopause.

5 out of 5 stars So true   July 26, 2010
Lindsay Kerstetter (YORBA LINDA, CA, US)
Since I've read this book I've found so many articles to support her information and research. While she gets kind of extreme on some things, like plastic and organic foods, she explains why avoiding all those toxins helps balance your hormones so your body is working with you, not against you. It's extremely interesting and if you like this book, definitely by the Master your Metabolism Cook Book!

5 out of 5 stars Very informative   July 21, 2010

I was a little skeptical that this was just another fad diet book but this one really does have a lot fo informative content that helped put taking care of myself in a new light. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to lose wieght or just be healthier. The only downside was that the shopping list at the end was a little confusing in regards to quantities needed for 1 or 2 people but by the second week I had it figured out.

Okay, so I normally don't review products on amazon.com, but this one I HAD to. I bought three Jillian books, this one, "Winning by Losing" and "Making the Cut." I read winning by losing, and quite frankly didn't care for a lot of what she suggested people eat. Master your Metabolism was a refreshing change to that book. I have been on the path for the past 1-2 months eliminating chemical-laden foods from my household. I had been looking into food, and came to the sudden realization, our bodies are not made to digest chemicals, HFCS, additives, artificial flavors/colors, pesticides, perservatives etc. Since then, I have bought a grain mill (first a hand crank, and then just got an electric one-do not suggest hand crank if you are interested), have switched to all organic produce and have found a great source for pastured eggs, am looking into getting my own chickens, already started a garden, but now making sure it doesn't get any chemicals. We drink raw organic milk now. I bake with the flour I grind (next step to better my flour is to sprout it). Our eggs have nice, beautiful orange yolks. Alot of the negatives I see people commenting are about how it is impossible to pay for all organic foods, costs too much. Well we are on a very small, one job income, and I am doing the best I can. Yes, I cannot lie, it does cost more money, but it is worth it. The food we eat now is amazing and healthy and delicious. I use real food bloggers recipes and insight from the following sites, heavenlyhomemakers(dot com), kitchenstewardship (dot com), and thenourishinggourmet (dot com). The only thing I do not agree with Jillian on is cooking/using egg whites only. The reason being, if you get the right eggs, preferably from chickens that eat a lot of fresh grass daily and bugs (be careful with "free range" this term is very misleading, try to find "pastured"), their yolks should be a orange color and are where all the health of the eggs are. These eggs are lower in the bad stuff and higher in the good stuff. Throwing out the yolks is throwing out the nutrients and health properties from the eggs. To follow the idea of not tampering with what nature gave us, do not throw the yolks. Other great resources are online, but I love the above mentioned websites to learn more, another suggestion I can give is to look for a co-op, a great one, that isn't in Jillian's book, is Azure Standard.

5 out of 5 stars Lots of good info!   July 11, 2010

I really enjoyed reading this book and learned alot about pollutants that I really had no clue about. My situation fits into what the book is helping with and I am working to eliminate alot of the BAD things from entering my body. I havent dont much but start buying bottled regular soda, limiting to one a day because I am hooked on soda, trying to eat more foods that have moms or grow from the ground and have lost about 4 pounds, not hard! I recommend it, you will learn and maybe be surprised like I was reading it.
